Charlie McGeehanI am in my 7th year teaching students in Philadelphia, and have worked at charter and District schools. I teach students Humanities, a combination of English and History. In my classroom, I hope to engage students in important issues facing our community and world, and give them opportunities to use their passions to express their perspectives in our coursework. In the Humanities department, we work to find ways for students to extend their learning beyond the classroom, including bringing students to present with us at conferences, partnerships with Philadelphia Young Playwrights and the Mural Arts Program, and bringing in community members to engage in panels during our thematic units. Beyond school, I am involved in teacher activist groups, including the Caucus of Working Educators and Teacher Action Group - Philadelphia. As an educator in Philadelphia, I see fighting for racial and economic justice in our schools and communities as an important part of my job. I live in South Philadelphia with my wife and our dog, Julius Puppers. My favorite meal is breakfast, I enjoy doing yoga before school, and bike to work most days.
