BE PART OF CO-DESIGNING AN INNOVATIVE SCHOOL!  EDUCATE HERE!

3/4/2018

Dear Awesome Educator!

We are growing, and we need the help of awesome people that want to both continue co-designing our school, and work with an unscreened student population.  We seek people that believe in education driven by common values: EMPATHY, AGENCY, CREATIVITY, COLLABORATION, PERSISTENCE and REFLECTION.  Together we will LOVE. DREAM. DO. with our learning community.

Founded in 2014 through a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York to re-imagine schools to prepare youth for college and career, The U School is a competency-based model that requires young people to demonstrate their learning through tangible performance tasks. In the process, we empower young people through challenging and scaffolded learning experiences. We leverage strong relationships with our students to grant students the agency and support needed to successfully make the college and career leap.

For the upcoming school year we seek the educators with the following certifications:
  • Mathematics
  • Biology
  • Physics
  • Spanish
  • Special Education
Qualifications/Applicants must:
  • Posses a PA State Certification or be eligible for PA Certification
  • Care deeply about educating young black and brown people
  • Be willing to engage in meaningful discourse about personal and systemic bias impacting pedagogy
  • Be willing to work collaboratively with a team
  • Be willing to utilize Common core aligned competencies to design and facilitate student learning
  • Comfort utilizing technology and leveraging tools to allow for student learning everywhere
  • Desire to connect classroom learning with partners across the city
  • Be willing to engage in extra curricular activities with students
Please submit through the EDUCATE HERE! page.

Sincerely,

The U School Team

Demand  early  sex  ed!

2/10/2017

Philadelphia has the highest reported rates of sexual intercourse and early sexual debut. Philadelphia youth are starting sex early, currently engaging in sex, have more than four lifetime partners, and use condoms with less frequency than the national average. Philadelphia girls report the highest rates of dating violence and forced sex of any city (High School Year Youth Risk Behavior Survey).
Young adolescents are engaging in risky sexual behaviors. Comprehensive, early sex education can reduce infection rates, prevent unwanted pregnancy and teach responsible, respectful behaviors.
