class of 2018 - 1st year cohort accomplishments!

Congratulations,
We have completed our first year at The U School! Your son/daughter will be moving up to 10th grade or as we say in Competency Based Educational terms is now a 2nd year high school student!
Our students have shown tremendous growth and we are anticipating greater opportunities for achievement and leadership! This past year our student leaders have organized, developed, coordinated and supported the following initiatives:
ArtWell - Collaboration with ArtWell Inc - school based curriculum in artistic expression
Breaking Boundaries a group which supports students who have experienced bullying
Chess Club - a citywide high school club where students of the U School meet weekly with other peers
Dream Team - a national program The Future Project where U School Students have the honor of being the 1st delegation from Philadelphia. We represented The U School at the 2014 Dream Con in NYC! http://www.meetup.com/The-Future-Project-NYC/
Film Club - a media project and movie development, production and distribution program
Get Out The Vote - multiple internships with candidates in two election cycles including our ‘photo-op’ with President Barack Obama (Organize Lab-Burnett)
Penn-U-Link - a partnership with University of Pennsylvania that supports our Innovation labs
Peer Mediation Program - peer-to-peer conflict resolution support
Pocket Poetry - annual event where U School students celebrate national poetry month by spreading poetic vibes throughout the Temple community (Highlight - Reed)
Student Council - student organization which serves to engage students in learning, democracy and leadership
Womens’ Poetry Club - a girls’ poetry club which meets after school (partnership with Bryn Mawr College)
These are only a few of the exciting programs and events our students have shown their “Awesomeness”. We’ve also travelled to a number of dynamic museums, exhibits and forums where The U School students have made their presence known as solid youth leaders!
